Enrichment-based Daycare

Why Doggy Daycare?

What is "Enrichment-based" Daycare?

What is "Enrichment-based" Daycare?

Doggy daycare provides a safe, stimulating option for dogs whose owners work long hours, travel, or for dogs who need extra physical activity and social interaction during the day.

In addition to providing exercise and socialization, doggy daycare can help curb destructive behaviors. According to the ASPCA, “the key to a happy and healthy dog is regular enrichment and allowing them to engage in their innate behaviors, such as playing, chasing, smelling, chewing and scavenging. By allowing your dog to engage in these behaviors, you allow them to be physically, emotionally and mentally satisfied". For these reasons, we believe dogs in our program NEED structure and enrichment!

Unlike dog parks and pet-sitting in the home, doggy daycare provides a consistent, fully supervised and structured way to train and socialize pets so they are better behaved and easier to handle.

What is "Enrichment-based" Daycare?

We want your dog to have fun and use his natural instincts while with us because we believe that dogs need enrichment to reduce stress in a non-destructive way. We also know that it helps build the bond between them and us (as their caretakers), so we introduce stimulating things like:

  • Food/Treat puzzles
  • Scent games
  • Playing on our agility equipment
  • One on one time (snuggling, playing ball or chase, whatever they like)
  • Providing pupsicles and doggy cookies to satisfy that urge to lick!

We also make learning fun while reinforcing good behaviors. We do that via mini-training sessions, practicing good manners such as:

  • Teaching and using "sit"
  • Having dogs “place” and “stay” while leashing them up and bringing them in or out of our facility
  • Practicing gate and door control

Basic Rules of Daycare

Because doggy daycare requires a friendly, happy atmosphere in order to be successful, it is important that we establish ground rules for behavior. Your dog should be comfortable playing and socializing with other dogs and allowing a new dog into their area without feeling territorial. For the safety of all pets and staff, we require daycare dogs allow us to handle them whenever necessary. For this reason, you may observe us making them sit, stay, etc. and they will not be allowed to jump on us when leashing them or moving them around. This does not mean we don't LOVE your pet(s)! We want them to play and have fun but it is important to us all that they respect us and behave when asked.

Who Goes Where?

Basic Rules of Daycare

Basic Rules of Daycare

We have multiple play rooms and dogs are broken into groups according to many factors, including size, age, play-style, temperament and owner preference.

Play groups are dynamic and change not only daily, but minute by minute depending on who is here, who comes in, and what is going on around them. Please be assured that while we will make every effort to accommodate your group preference, SAFETY IS OUR TOP PRIORITY. If we determine a different play group or room would work better for your pet's needs on any given day, we will move him/her at that time.

Please contact us to discuss your BFF’s daycare needs. We will explain everything in detail, answer your questions, and help determine whether Wag Time will be a good fit for you. Once you decide to enroll, we will help you through the process and make an appointment to get you started. Please bear in mind that we do need to schedule your dog's first day of play.

You should allow a little extra time on your first visit, so that we have time to answer all your questions and asses your pet's personality. After your first day, we will help you decide if ongoing doggy daycare will be beneficial to your pup and make sure we can provide the services you need.

Your FIRST Visit

Proper introductions take time. We are unlikely to put your dog into daycare minutes after you arrive or with you present. Things go much smoother for us all once your BFF is comfortable with staff and surroundings. For that reason, an appointment is required for your first daycare visit, so that we can allow time for your pup to acclimate to the exciting sounds and smells in the building before doggy introductions begin.

Once your pup has had time to calm down, we will find the best play group and buddies for your BFF and send you an update and pictures on how things are going.

Tours & Evaluations

Because we are an enrichment-based daycare, we spend all day with the dogs making sure they are happy, safe and well-adjusted.  For this reason, we ask that you schedule tours and evaluation days in advance so that we may have an additional staff member present to work with you and your pet(s).  We don't want you to feel rushed if you have questions, nor do we want to leave our group players unattended.
